Concrete, Plaster & Beam
Installation in an unfinished building
Barbu Vacarescu, Bucharest
print and wallpaper, various sizes
2014
The work „Concrete, Plaster & Beam“ deals with the perception of space and how space can be created.
The Installation is located in an unfinished office building in Bucharest, Romania. It was installed there in 2014 and will change over the period of time.
The photographic documentation is not only a documentation. It is work on its own.
The unfinished building shows how it is constructed. There is rough plaster, beams and concrete floors and columns
I reproduced the picture of one column and arranged it to a repetetive pattern which is based on 19.century wallpapers. This pattern is pasted all over the floors, ground, ceiling and original columns and a new room is created.
My main interest is transformation! What happens if you change the context of an object and detach it from its original habitat.. How does the changing affect its functionality and can it support and power its aesthetical quality. Is this a way to discover and develop the artistic quality of everday objects. I strongly believe that every object has an artistic potencial. It just has to be discovered and pushed.
